Well, possible causes are: 1. Incompatibility between the game and the emulated environment. Never tried Fallout under Wine so I can't help here. May be Wasteland Ghost could suggest something. 2. Incompletely applied fix. Post MD5s for your patches master.dat, critter.dat and falloutw.exe. I'll compare them with hashes of healthy files. 3. You are using a troublesome mod along with the game. Fallout Update 1.2.5 is known source of exotic crashes.

Hi Alchemist, thanks for getting back to me. Here are the md5 hashes: fb6a92a206191adf15440b2f9cbf014c MASTER.DAT b92ca2ad7c9afc404468a9287983ad90 CRITTER.DAT c32ae6f10573f654380702f40b4bf8db Falloutw.exe I'm not using any mods, just the official 1.1 patch and TeamX's 1.2 and 1.3.2 patches (along with the fix you've given me). Just to check, after I applied your fix to my clean files (which are v1.1) I then RE-applied patch 1.1 and then added 1.2 and 1.3.2 as usual. Wine was working perfectly with fallout 1.3.2 before, but I couldn't tell you whether it is reacting badly with this fix or not. That's way beyond my understanding. Thanks again.

DAT files are healthy. So fix has been applied successfully. But MD5 of your falloutw.exe does not match any engine version known to me. Where does this file comes from? And also what release date and version are mentioned in the readme file on the CD-ROM?

I've experienced video problems, when I was using some old wine version. I suggest, you download and install latest version. I'm using free version of Ethersoft Wine and FO1&2 are working perfectly on my ALT Linux Compact 3.0. As I know, Ethersoft has rpms for almost all popular linux versions on their ftp. Also try different compatibility and/or video settings in the wine control panel, this may help.

"FALLOUT: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game Readme File - 29 September 1997 Version 1.0" Although, it installed v1.1. The instructions for the fix said I needed to reinstall the 1.1 patch so I did that aster applying the fix to the dat files. Then I used teamX's 1.2 and 1.3.2 patches. I kept my v1.0 and v1.1 exe's; here are their md5s a5d102e85e788426cf01862e9035d097 FALLOUTW_1.0.EXE a5d102e85e788426cf01862e9035d097 FALLOUTW_1.1.EXE A bit weird that they're the same? As for wine I'm running 0.9.44. It ran the unfixed fallout perfectly without any tinkering... I've just tried using the 1.1 exe and it crashed in exactly the same way the 1.3.2 version did. I downloaded wine 0.9.46 (the latest release I could get an rpm for) and the choppyness has gone but now the game crashes on the main menu. This looks like it's an issue with wine rather than fallout then... Thanks a load for your help, I'll let you know if I have any progress. EDIT: the md5 of my falloutw.exe that you didn't recognise is from the 1.2 patch, I've checked with the FALLOUTW.EXE from a fresh 1.2 patch.

Nothing weird is here. You have US release v1.1. Not v1.0. Check the 'data' folder on your CD-ROM and you'll find some scripts and msg-files along with acms. While the release v1.0 has music only there.
Цитата: the md5 of my falloutw.exe that you didn't recognise is from the 1.2 patch
Clumsy me. I've been comparing your MD5 sums with the sum for the wrong 1.2 engine. Yes, your falloutw.exe is perfectly fine.

Sorry guys for my silence... I haven't played since my last post, i was damn too busy irl... wow, i didn't think this could interest someone else... Anyway, i'm back on my comp for few days and here i follow your last instructions, my md5 checks from a "clean" installation, no mods, no patches, nothing, just the "uncensored 1.1 US version": A5D102E85E788426CF01862E9035D097 ---> FALLOUTW.EXE 0F173D86D623BB2F60DC741A4EE8B7BB ---> MASTER.DAT 4F6B9784411B92BEBB622C81ED720DAE ---> CRITTER.DAT I've read what you've done with Freddie and it seems that we have exactly the same issue with the same MD5 sums. I've dled your fix, i'll try it and post my results asap. Thanx again for your assistance... =) [edit] All right, i'm done, i've followed instructions from your "fix4oldgames" then re applied 1.2, then 1.3.2 and that worked perfectly... I reached the 3rd floor of the Master's vault... I haven't tried to finish the game yet, but i will and report here. So it seems that the fix works well on WinXP... maybe i'm insisting too much but i'm very gratefull you look further into my issue and i really like to thank you, Alchemist and Wasteland Ghost, a maxi mega bunch... By the way, Thank Freddie too to have hijacked this post, you did great to do so...

I've got that problem Freddie mentioned... I've applied that fix and yet game continues to crash on that level sometimes. My MD5s are exactly the same as Freddie's. Maybe there's a better fix for such case or something?

What are MD5 sums of your master.dat, critter.dat and falloutw.exe AFTER the fix application? What patches/mods are you using? What are exact date and version of the release accordinly to your readme? How often do thouse 'sometimes' happen and how it look like?

I've already finished Fallout today... It seems this bug can be avoided if you can kill all enemies very fast or leave and re-enter location right before game crashes. At least that worked in my case. But it's not only the Cathedral that crashes, Military base has that stuff too... My MD5 sums: MASTER.DAT fb6a92a206191adf15440b2f9cbf014c CRITTER.DAT b92ca2ad7c9afc404468a9287983ad90 FALLOUTW.EXE a5d102e85e788426cf01862e9035d097 So, it's fixed 1.1 US version. But I've played different versions (for example, pirate russian version with the bug at the end of the Military Base, I've heard it's a famous one) with the same results. 'Sometimes' is... 'sometimes'. For example I fight against mutant guards, kill one, two, three... and sunddenly right after my shot the screen turns black. I've tried to save game in different slots on different turns, but didn't work. When I load the game and try to shoot everythings ends the same way (even if the game was saved at the previous turn). YET, if move character somewhere or use the lift, nothing happens.
